Emission of greenhouse gases

In 2007, Danfoss emitted around 171,000 tonnes of CO2 generated by the group’s consumption of electricity and heating.

The sources of the emission are both direct (own plants for the production of electricity and heat) and indirect, when electricity and heat is purchased from external producers. In comparison with 2006, this is an increase of 8%.
Electricity consumption makes up 75% of the group’s total emissions of CO2 which in 2007 equalled 127,000 tonnes, while 44,000 tonnes of CO2 came from the energy sources used for heating.

In 2007, all of Danfoss’ production sites were asked to record the energy consumption of fossil and renewable sources of energy, and most of the factories managed to have their supply companies provide them with this information. So, for the first time Danfoss can calculate each factory’s emission of CO2.
The basis of calculation was data from the World Resources Institute; the same as UN’s climate panel (IPCC) uses in its reports.

Over the next years, ambitious targets will be set to minimise the Danfoss Group’s total emission of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The efforts will reduce Danfoss’ energy consumption, increase the share of renewable energy and make sure that Danfoss’ own products and solutions are applied where economically and environmentally feasible.

Corporate Citizenship

Danfoss’ overall goal within Corporate Citizenship is "keeping our own house in order".
This applies to employees, so that they have an attractive workplace and a healthy work-ing environment. It applies to the environment, where Danfoss products contribute to energy savings, and where the environmental impact of their production is constantly being reduced.
And it applies, in a broad sense, to social and ethical responsibility.
Efforts are continually being intensified, because when employee satisfaction is high, consumption of resources is as low as possible, and the company’s ethics and reputation are good, the result is a positive effect on the accounting bottom line.
